In 2017, the centenary of Sidney Nolan’s birth, the Trust collaborated with the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham on the Looping The Loop project. Young people from St Pauls School, Balsall Heath, St Basils, Sandwell Youth Services and Ikon Youth Programme took part in a series of workshops exploring self expression, identity and place.

At the Ikon Gallery they discovered Nolan's extraordinary spray painted  ‘heads'; on the newly refurbished Ikon Slow Boat they explored the city canal network with spoken word artist Amerah Saleh and Free Radical; and at The Rodd  they joined leading street artist Dan ‘Newso’ Lickiss for spray paint workshops, creating their own powerful portraits.

The project enabled participants to share their experiences of homelessness and displacement and express these through their spray painted panels and through words, which came together for a celebratory showcase exhibition at the Ikon in September 2017.
