ORCHARD COTTAGE

Modern art lovers now have a unique opportunity to stay in a cottage on the 250 acre Rodd estate formerly owned by Sir Sidney Nolan. The estate sits in the beautiful Hindwell Valley on the English Welsh border next door to the picturesque Welsh town of Presteigne, close to the historic market town of Ludlow and the internationally renowned town of books, Hay on Wye.

Perfectly Placed

Our lovely one-bedroom cottage, formerly the gardener’s cottage, sits amongst a collection of 17th century buildings which centre around Rodd Court, the Jacobean manor house where Sidney lived with his wife Mary. There is space to paint or write and guests are free to wander the grounds and gardens and take in the tranquil location which first drew Sidney to live there.

Perfectly Positioned

From Orchard Cottage, guests can tour the area including the black and white villages of Herefordshire, the Black Mountains, Elan Valley and the Brecon Beacons. Enjoy excellent food locally at the many restaurants and award winning pubs in the area.

Perfectly Proportioned

Orchard Cottage is very spacious with a lovely flow. It includes one large double-bedroom with a king size bed, conservatory, country kitchen, generous living room with log burner, bathroom and separate shower room, boot room and utility area. There is designated parking adjacent to the cottage.

All rental income from the cottage support's the Trust’s creative and learning programmes and our work with young people and artists.

“Monumental landscape gave Sidney a great sense of awe… when he had his solitary moments overlooking the Hindwell Valley he felt something of that same sense of wonder. ”

Mary Nolan, 2009
