Sidney Nolan Art Prize

The Sidney Nolan Trust announces the Sidney Nolan Art Prize 2025, an exciting new open call and exhibition opportunity for contemporary artists working across all media from across the globe.

Inspired by the legacy of pioneering Australian modernist artist Sir Sidney Nolan (1917-1992), the Sidney Nolan Art Prize invites artists to explore art that engages with emotion and human identity in relation to society and/or the landscape, environment, plants, and animals.

The brief for this new prize recognises Nolan’s ambitious and restless curiosity and concern, and commitment to art as a way to address acute and current questions of human experience, and how we relate to one another and our world.

The Sidney Nolan Trust seeks work exhibiting bravery and conviction, exploring the unique quality of their chosen medium across drawing, painting, print, sculpture, photography, digital, performance, installation, or mixed media.

Cross-disciplinary approaches and collaborations are encouraged.

The selection will culminate in an exhibition at The Rodd, Sidney Nolan’s former 17th-century home in rural Herefordshire, in Summer 2026. Prizes include an award of £1000 with a solo exhibition, artist residencies, and mentoring opportunities.

Artists are invited to propose work for the Gallery, historic agricultural barn spaces, gardens, or the wider farmland estate. Up to 40 works will be selected.
