In this fun, hands-on workshop for young people aged 7–16, we’ll take inspiration from artists Sidney Nolan and Daniel McCarthy in our current exhibition. Together, we’ll explore how artists tell stories through their work—diving into magical Welsh myths and legendary tales.

Using a mix of exciting materials and creative techniques, you’ll experiment with different ways to bring stories to life and create your own unique storytelling artworks. Expect bold ideas, imaginative characters, and plenty of creative adventure!

Come ready to explore, experiment, and invent your own legendary masterpiece.

Workshop Schedule

11:00 – 11:20 | Exploring the Exhibition
We’ll start with a short visit to the exhibition to look at artworks by Sidney Nolan and Daniel McCarthy, and talk about the different ways artists tell stories through images, symbols, and imagination.

11:20 – 12:00 | Draw Along With a Myth
Listen to a Welsh myth while drawing along together! As the story unfolds, you’ll create quick sketches and visual notes, capturing characters, places, and moments from the tale.

12:00 – 12:30 | Lunch Break

12:30 – 2:00 | Create Your Own Myth Artwork
Using your sketches and ideas from the morning, you’ll design and make your own myth-inspired artwork. Work big and bold with your choice of materials—painting, drawing, sculpture, or mixed media—to bring your story to life.
