More information
Inspired by Sidney Nolan, this two-day workshop invites artists to begin with plein air observation and develop their work further in the studio. Paint directly from the landscape while exploring new ways of seeing and interpreting place.
Through guided exercises, you’ll explore Nolan’s approach to landscape, memory, simplification, and narrative—moving from direct observation to abstraction and meaning.
Designed for artists and adults with previous art experience, this workshop offers a chance to deepen your relationship with landscape and transform what you see into expressive, personal painting.
The course is led by contemporary painter Daniel MacCarthy. Daniel was previously Resident Artist at The Rodd, and the workshop is offered in tandem with his current exhibition 'Another step towards Troy, presented in our main gallery.
Participants will enjoy lunches of locally sourced soups and bread. Coffee ,teas and biscuits will be available on arrival and again during the afternoon.
A materials list will be sent to participants ahead of the weekend and can be supplemented with supplies at The Rodd.
